Preventative Care

Blue Ridge Family Dentistry offers complete preventative care for your family. Optimal oral health helps our patients keep their smiles brighter and healthier. Maintaining this level of dental health may also prevent chronic diseases. Research indicates there may be a link between gum disease and many serious health conditions.

Blue Ridge Family Dentistry preventative appointments help us identify dental problems, which if left unchecked, may become more severe and more costly to treat.

Preventative Dental Services include...

  • Comprehensive Examinations
  • Advanced (Safer) Digital X-Rays - greatly reduces radiation, receives instant images and allows you to see and know more about your dental care.
  • Oral cancer screenings
  • Dental Sealants
  • Fluoride Treatment

Improving the appearance of your teeth, mouth, and smile has many benefits. Dr. Solis has extensive training in advanced dentistry and provides complete cosmetic dental care.

Whether it is getting that bright white smile, closing the gap between front teeth or a complete smile makeover, cosmetic dentistry makes it possible.

A smile makeover improves the appearance of the smile through one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as dental veneers, dental implants, and teeth whitening.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments Include:

  • Dental Veneers – close gaps, change appearance (straighten), permanently whiten
  • Porcelain Crowns – to “cover” worn or broken teeth
  • Natural-Looking Crown & Bridge - to replace missing teeth
  • Composite Fillings – rather than “silver mercury” amalgam fillings
  • Cosmetic Bonding - for chipped, broken or cracked teeth, and closing gaps
  • Teeth Whitening - for stained and yellowed teeth

Dental implants are transformative. Missing teeth can greatly increase the decline of oral health. Surrounding teeth can wear down faster and break more often. Bone structure weakens and shrinks. The jaw recedes, changing the profile of the face.

While Blue Ridge Family Dentistry offers other treatments to replace missing teeth, dental implants and implant-supported dentures are a lifelike, long-term, very conservative, comprehensive solution.

Complete (adhesive) dentures, partial removable dentures and crown and bridge dentistry offer the results many people appreciate. However, dental implants offer an exceptional level of value you should consider. Especially, if you are looking for a youthful, healthy, and confident smile.

Benefits

  • The implant will osseointegrate (bond) with the existing bone.
  • The new implant will support your teeth firmly and safely.
  • Your new implants are aesthetically pleasing.
  • You will no longer have pain during talking or eating.
  • The dental implant will prevent progressive bone atrophy.
  • Implants have a proven scientific basis.

“White” Dental Fillings

Advanced restorative dentistry has changed how we approach every aspect of care. Cavities can be treated much more conservatively than before. By using composite “white” fillings, we are able to preserve more of your tooth and keep it healthier longer.

Composite dental fillings are bonded to your teeth, which requires minimal tooth preparation. Metal fillings often need “more space” to be placed securely, so more tooth structure is removed. Many times the result is much more than esthetic: no mercury, less susceptibility to breaking, more natural tooth, and less sensitivity to hot and cold.

Periodontal (Gum) Therapy

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. There are a number of things we can do to treat periodontal disease. The goal is to restore your gum tissue to a healthy state.

What kind of gum disease treatment you might need depends on how much the disease has progressed. Dr. Solis will determine the extent of the damage and develop an initial, and usually a conservative plan. An oral hygiene exam is done to see if enough plaque is being removed on a daily basis.

Additionally, a dental professional must remove any calculus (tartar) build up. Sometimes scaling and root planning procedures are needed as well. Antibiotics might be used to treat bacteria located in the gum “pockets”. Dr. Solis may recommend a medicated mouthwash to be used as a regular part of your home care. More advanced treatments and surgery might be needed. Remember, it is never too late to get the results you want – but the sooner we address your needs, the more conservative your treatment will be.

Root Canal Therapy

Saving your natural teeth is our most important mission. In years past, it was common for someone to lose a tooth when the nerve was diseased. Blue Ridge Family Dentistry now uses a dental procedure called root canal therapy, which may save that tooth.

The pulp inside each tooth provides nutrients and nerves to the tooth. This “inside tissue” runs down into the root. When the pulp is injured or diseased, this tissue dies. If it is not removed, the tooth will get infected and you could lose it. After Dr. Solis removes the pulp, to protect the root canal, he cleans and seals it. Then he places a crown over the tooth to strengthen it.

Expect this fairly simple procedure, requiring one to three visits, to involve little or no discomfort. Better yet, it saves teeth and smiles!

Full and Partial Dentures

It is very important to replace missing teeth. Blue Ridge Family Dentistry offers both complete dentures and partial dentures.

Complete dentures are for people with no remaining teeth. For those who have lost several teeth, Dr. Solis might recommend a partial denture or an over-denture.

Periodontal (gum) disease may have caused the tooth loss or decay, or a traumatic injury. Not addressing tooth loss in a timely manner can shift remaining teeth, create an inability to bite or chew properly. The shifting of teeth can also make one appear older than they are.

Tooth Extractions

Blue Ridge Family Dentistry is dedicated to saving teeth. Therefore, Dr. Solis will do all he can to avoid this treatment. If there is a need for an extraction, it could be associated with these circumstances.

  • Broken, cracked, or extensively decayed teeth.
  • Unsuitable candidates for root canal treatment
  • Advanced periodontal disease (gum disease)
  • Impacted, malpositioned or nonfunctional teeth such as wisdom teeth
  • In preparation for orthodontic treatment (braces) such as baby teeth

Emergency Dental Care

Accidents happen, and knowing what to do can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Dr. Solis reserves time in his schedule for dental emergency patients. When you have an emergency situation, call Blue Ridge Family Dentistry and provide as many details as possible.

Pain is often a sign something is wrong—a problem that might not disappear even if the pain goes away. Whether it is a dental problem you finally have decided to resolve or a recent incidence, Blue Ridge Family Dentistry can help. 434-296-5250
